At Paws in Motion, we use a variety of different electrotherapies that we feel are most suitable for your dog's specific condition. Alongside manual therapies and exercise prescription, electrotherapies can help to increase the rate of healing and and encourage better quality of repair.
In animals, TENS uses a small current that targets the sensory nerves and is generally used for sub acute or chronic soft tissue dysfunction, muscle spasm, pain, oedema or muscle re-education.
Pain relief is obtained by activating the opiod system
RED LIGHT THERAPY
Red Light Therapy uses red and infrared light at specific wavelengths that are proven to be effective in accelerating the natural healing process. It can help with wound healing, reducing swelling and inflammation and provides pain relief.
PULSED ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD THERAPY (pemf)
During the inflammatory stage of healing, cell function becomes impaired. PEMF helps to re balance the membrane potential and relax or constrict blood vessels depending on desired outcomes and setting that is used.
PEMF can be used for pain management, soft tissue injuries, neurological conditions, fracture repair, joint injuries and reduction of bruising.
NEUROMUSCULAR ELECTRICAL STIMULATION (nmes)
Muscle stimulation is used to treat atrophied muscles, neuromuscular conditions and to maintain muscle tone if an animal is on cage rest.
It can help increase muscle strength, maintain or improve range of motion, improve blood supply to the muscle and prevents atrophy.
